This entire site was created with Arachnophilia, an excellent plain text editor that has customizable toolbars to help you build pages quickly while retaining complete control of your coding. It also has the ability to convert wordprocessed documents into basic HTML pages. This program would be well worth a couple hundred bucks, but it is, in fact, free. The program was built by Paul Lutus and offered as CareWare. Here is a brief excerpt of what he would like as payment for the program:To own Arachnophilia, I ask that you stop whining about how hard your life is, at least for a while. When Americans whine, nearly everybody else in the world laughs. We have so much, and yet we manage to:This program is very intuitive, but a lot of its features will be overlooked. Over the next few weeks (or months) I will try to point out the many features available so that those who choose to use the program can make use of all it has to offer.
[After some explanation of this request, he recaps:]

- Miss our most important opportunities,
- Manage to make ourselves miserable by expecting something even better to come along.
So here is my deal: stop whining for an hour, a day, a week, your choice, and you will have earned your copy of Arachnophilia. Say encouraging words to young people, make them feel welcome on the planet Earth (many do not). Show by example that we don’t need all we have in order to be happy and productive.
To begin, download the program here or at the Arachnophilia site and install it.
Once you have installed the program, choose an area from the dropdown menu to begin your exploration. I suggest you start with the Introduction, then go to the page that most interests you.
